Patient Education & Instructions

PATIENT EDUCATION

Patient Education

Penile implant recovery is often one of the most concerning aspects for patients undergoing penis prosthetic surgery. While your doctor may provide you with general post-operative guidelines, directions for the use of UroWrap is particular to each patient, and they may change during the recovery process. However, here are some general post-operative guidelines given by our recommending surgeons.

Important note: You should ask your physician for the instruction that best fits your recovery. The instructions may be different from the general instruction below. You should not follow below unless you consult with your surgeon. If you experience skin itching or irritation, please stop the use of the bandage and contact your physician.

As a general example, we ask that you wear UroWrap:

Week 1 to 2

Day and night, with recommended intervals

Week 3 To 8

16 hours during the day, when you are not sleeping, with recommended intervals

Week 8 To 12

12 hours during the day, particularly when you are active

Weeks 12 to 20

8 hours during the day, particularly when you are active.

Weeks 20 to 40

A few hours during the day, particularly when working out or engaging in other strenuous activities.

Important notes:

The UroWrap must be kept clean at all times

UroWrap must be replaced regularly when it begins to lose its elasticity or when it is no longer clean. We recommend a new bandage at least once a day

You must take off the tubular bandage when you take a shower

After you have been cleared for sexual activity, you must remove the bandage for sexual activity

How to wear UroWrap:

It is important to learn how to wear the bandage properly. Since the bandage may move when you walk or during other activities, it is important to check your bandage periodically to ensure it is in the right position. If not, please adjust it.
Prepare your UroWrap:
Cut off a part of the UroWrap roll, one inch longer than the penis. Slide your fingers all the way through UroWrap and stretch the bandage, so the opening is wide enough. Put the penis inside the opening and move the UroWrap with your free hand all the way to the base of the penis. Avoid contact with the scrotal skin. Make sure that the whole penis is covered with the UroWrap. Pull your fingers out of the tube. Double-fold the excess bandage, so it fits behind the penis glans. Leave the glans exposed.

Caution: While using UroWrap, if you experience skin abrasion, skin wound, thinning of the skin, or irritated skin, please contact your surgeon immediately as you may need to stop the use of the tubular bandage.

The duration and frequency of using the UroWrap bandages vary for each patient and depend on factors such as the:

  • Tendency for swelling
  • Tendency for bleeding
  • Quality of penile skin
  • Frequency of unintentional erections
  • Tendency for penile retraction
  • Overall recovery state

Please remove your UroWrap every 4-6 hours for about 15-30 minutes and replaced with a fresh bondage. This allows the penile skin to breath air and blood to circulate in the penile skin more freely. It is recommended to sit or lie down and avoid activities during these intervals to prevent swelling.

Maintenance Care

Maintenance Care Following Complete Healing:

During the first year following your penis surgery, it is recommended to use UroWrap during working out, engaging in heavy activities, airplane flights and any other activity which might cause pressure to the penis or penile swelling. The use of UroWrap during these activities can help reduce the formation of inflammation and swelling.
